Hi friend, I wanted to shoot you a quick message about a project I'm working on that I'm SUPER excited about (and that I need your help with!) TL;DR: I created a survey to collect data on recovery milestones from movement artists who've had gender affirming top surgery...this data doesn't currently exist but is desperately needed. If you've had double incision top surgery and are fully recovered (or if you know someone who fits the bill) , please consider filling out the survey and/or sharing it widely! The Backstory: As you probably know, I've been working with trans artists preparing for and recovering from top surgery for the past 5 years. Throughout that time I've heard the same questions regarding their return to training timelines: When can I actually get back to handstands? Trapeze? My full training capacity? Surgical protocols tell us when tissues have healed, but they don't answer the questions that matter most to movement artists. This data gap makes it incredibly difficult for folks to plan their lives, work, and training around surgery...so I created a survey to fill that gap with real experiences from people who've been through it. What it is: A survey collecting real recovery timelines from movement artists after double incision top surgery. If you or anyone you know has had top surgery, you already know how hard it is to anticipate return to stretching, weight lifting, handstands, trapeze, pole, aerial—the list goes on. Surgical protocols don't go into that level of detail on return to training timelines, which is frustrating for folks trying to plan life after surgery! This survey will create a comprehensive dataset showing the RANGE of real experiences so future patients can set realistic expectations. Who can take it: Any movement artist (at any level) who's had double incision top surgery AND is fully (or nearly fully) recovered. This resource will help trans folks plan their lives, work, and performance schedules around recovery with realistic timelines, which is why I need your help!
Here's what I need from you:
Once I have this data, I'll be sharing the results via email, instagram, and on my blog, so stay tuned! Thanks so much for your help - I am SO excited to see the results, and can't wait to share them with you! Have a great week, Jen Crane |
